An Overview of the H.A.C. 20 Day Syllabus
Study Hours
Supervised teaching hours are a minimum 128 (15 days) plus 38 supervised clinic hours (5 days). Additional self-study hours are a minimum 166. Total course is a minimum 332 hours over 6 months study.
Theoretical
History of Acupuncture: theoretical and philosophical perspectives.
Healing with acupuncture, using various styles and developments.
5 Element Acupuncture: developing elemental awareness, skills and ability
to use this in acupuncture practice. The officials and the energetic nature of
elements. Learning traditional 5E protocols.
Traditional Chinese
Medicine: learning key concepts
and theory of TCM for the purposes of acupuncture practice. Including Zang Fu,
3 treasures, 6 divisions,
Qi, Organs, Channels etc.
Acupuncture Points
Theory: types of point, the nature
and energy of points, functions and creative uses of key points.
Health and Safety: referrals, notes, drugs, legal obligations, insurance, premises, ethical issues etc.
Practical
Pulse Taking: identify types of pulse, diagnosis with pulse.
Tongue Diagnosis: identify key features and meaning.
Needling: needle safety, needle techniques and development
of practical and energetic awareness and needling skills.
Cupping Skills: and use of heat and moxabustion, B.P. testing etc.
Palpating Skills: and healing skills for treatment and diagnosis.
Diagnosis: and treatment planning using information obtained
through a variety of skills and using that effectively in a clinic setting.
Point Location: practical application of locating, sensing and using acupuncture points.

Outcomes and CPD.
At the end of the course
students will be able to work as a professional acupuncturists. Having
developed and gained knowledge, practical skills and practitioner awareness.
This will enable them to take a case, make a diagnosis and then plan and carry
out effective treatments for patients in a caring, professional and healing
environment. Students are actively encouraged to continue their learning and
development with additional courses, experience, reflection and study.

HAC Sess 2.
The Officials Story, The Energy of the Elements, The Energy Types (& CF's), The life, the issue, the nature of people & “appropriateness" Join our students for an introduction to 5 element acupuncture theory.
HAC Sess 3.
The Earth element and the earth officials. Recognising Earth and the energy of the St/Sp. The Functions of the St/Sp in CM. Organ function. Earth in harmony/disharmony. The Earth type and their strengths and weaknesses/issues.
HAC Sess 4.
The Water element and the Ki/Bl Recognising Water/pathologies involving water. The nature of the water type, their life and issues. Water in balance/inbalance. Organ Functions. Points to influence water, behaviour to recognise and influence water.
HAC Sess 5.
The Wood element, Liver/Gb, How wood feels, the Liv/Gb in life and in nature. How wood looks in life/in person. Functions of Liv/Gb. Pathologies of wood eg stagnation. eg, The concept of Liver Qi Stagnation and its manifestations.
HAC Sess 6.
Heart & PC & The four officials of fire. The role of the Heart in relation to Shen. The nature of the PC and its role. The Fire person and possible manifestations of fire with emphasis of different officials. Ht/Si/PC/SJ. The organs in TCM. Fire/Water relationship. Needling Practice palpate and needle pain areas, eg shoulder. AhShi points, Manipulation of needles. Concept and use of 6 divisions in practice (common ones)
HAC Sess 7.
Metal, The Lungs and Colon. Nature of Metal and its associations. Qi, functions and pathology of Lu/Co. Metal type person/nature. Metal in balance and imbalance. The use of heat. The use of cupping.
HAC Sess 8.
Blocks to treatment. Possession. AE. HW. Entry/Exit Discussion of theory. Plus: How do we actually turn all this theory into a treatment? Patients who don’t want to get better, why, what do we do? Practitioner expectations. The value of supervision and mentoring. Exercise on discussing various scenarios which can occur. Practical: Needling HuatoJagi, (Ma)head points, Back Shu. Bleeding nail points.
